During my five-day trip to Shantou, I was booked to stay at this restaurant one night. It's said to be the most popular place in Chaozhou. Arrived! It was packed! The whole street looked like Wu Ji Fu Yuan, with thousands of large ground floor shops connected together. The dishes were varied and exquisite. I looked so appetizing! Delicious! But it was so crowded that I had to arrive early and wait for a table.

Fu Yuan Restaurant has become very famous since it was featured on "A Bite of China." However, local friends in Shantou don't recommend it, mainly for two reasons: firstly, it's too expensive, and secondly, there are too many other decent late-night food options in Shantou. But after trying several late-night eateries, I must say that Fu Yuan is still worth a visit. Although a frozen crab costs 600 RMB, the ingredients are high-quality and the taste is excellent. The raw marinated mantis shrimp is also very flavorful. The goose intestines, shrimp balls, and other snacks each have their own unique taste, and there are so many choices. There are forty or fifty kinds of fish rice alone on the stall, which is truly all-encompassing.

We're not rich, so we couldn't afford the grilled conch. We ordered our favorite dishes: a braised platter, Longjiang pig's feet, raw marinated shrimp, stir-fried rice noodles, and candied taro. Every dish was perfect. Even more perfect was the service. They didn't discriminate against us just because we ordered the cheaper dishes, and they paid attention to many small details. For example, when we almost couldn't finish our bowl of porridge, they waived the cost of one bowl when we paid the bill; when we were packing porridge to go, they noticed it was low on water and added more for us. It wasn't about saving a few dollars; it was about their consideration for every customer, which truly deserves a thumbs up. Online reviews say the food here is good, but not top-notch. I'm curious, are there any Shantou restaurants that are affordable for the average tourist and accessible without reservations? Please DM me, I'd love to try it.

Wow. Wide choice of animal parts, seafood etc. Probably some of the stuff here are protected species :)

Authentic food with ample, more than you can take, choices. Plenty of tables, both in and outdoor, so there is no need to wait even if we visit at 7 pm on a Monday night. Food serving fast and taste good.

Really good food, fresh and nicely cooked! Very worth a try! However, it’s pricey!
